Nine O'clock

I love 9:00pm. It really signifies that my day is pretty much over. Living on an army base, we hear music played a few different times a day. Reveille at 7am, at 5pm "Colors" is played when they retire the flag for the evening and at 9pm they play taps.

Tonight, there is a giant thunderstorm headed our way. I have loved storms since my days in Nauvoo, so I went outside and just stood on our back porch to watch for a few minutes. This happened to be just as taps played and as the storm came rolling in.

It was moving...gosh, that's the wrong word... inspiring... no, comforting. Amid this huge, huge storm, the final lines to Taps come to my head.
"All is well, safely rest, God is nigh"
I always am reminded of how small and powerless I am in the face of such grandeur. I am reminded to have an eternal perspective, to take things one day at a time, that I am not in control, that someone stronger and wiser and more compassionate than I can imagine takes care of it, so I don't have to. I just have to do one day at a time.

And I can do that.
