Lots of people call me "Em" -- self explanatory
My mom sometimes calls me "Emmaline" -- Because it comes off the tongue nicely.
My favorite Uncle calls me "E-Claire"-- because he loves me and it sounds awesome. Or... it's sweet, like me?
And my (not so) secret admirer in high school called me "beauty, perfect from above,Who fills me with an angel's perfect light" Flattering, right?-- Because it fit perfectly into his Shakespearian sonnet, iambic pentameter and all. He wrote me 2 of them... want to see? (Sometimes, when I have bad days, I read them, just to giggle and also because they put me in a fantastic light.)
Here's the first one...
When my love smiles the whole world seems to shine,To see her laughing makes me wish that ICould stay with her for now and for all time,But then i think on it and wonder why.Why did i let myself fall so in loveWith someone whom i know is halfway right,When there stands beauty, perfect from above,Who fills me with an angel's perfect light?Oh Emily and Kjellsi why did iBecome so foolish that i know not whoI truly love, is't her or her for i,or neither that i proclaim my love to?This one i love, and i love that one too,But who's more worthy of my "i love you"?
(this was followed by the comment "so i think i've pretty much decided that I really love Emily"
Then later:
A Sonnet for EmilyWhen i see you, a smile upon your face,A twinkle in your eye; i cannot hide,The fact that i love you with all your grace,And wish that you, a time, with me would bide. You're beautiful, you're funny and you're smart,That's why i find myself in love with you,I'm just an actor trying to play his part,But seeing you makes me forget my cue.I thought i had my life all planned and right,But enter you, and everything is changed,I loved the time i spent with you that night,e'en though, at times, it did seem somewhat strange.Oh, Emily, I love you, can't you see?And can it be that you also love me?
Oh my... (PS: sonnet boy got married while I was on my mission. He sent me ALL of his engagement pictures.)
So we're back on track with nicknames...
The first guy I ever kissed called me 'sweet cheeks'. I did not like it.
The girls I nannied called me Miss Emily
And my nieces call me Auntie Em... or rather I call me Auntie Em (till they're old enough to catch on).
Rachel just calls me for rides. :)
I grew up with the saying," you can call me anything...just don't call me late for dinner"
